Accommodation in Orihuela ranges from rustic camping to luxurious five star resorts. Between these two extremes you have holiday apartments, hostals, guest houses and hotels. Although the choice of hotels in the city centre are rather limited, further accommodation options can be found in the surrounding villages and towns. Some hostals and hotels include breakfast in the room price. Other hotels offer all inclusive deals that include all meals and selected local drinks.
The glorious Costa Blanca boasts some wonderful campsites where the emphasis is on fun in the sun. Some, such as La Marina Camping & Resort are located on the coast and offer an amazing choice of leisure activities. Not as grand but equally as pleasant is Camping La Pedrera. located on the outskirts of Bigastro Village, the campsite is just 10 minutes drive from Orihuela. It offers a choice of camping and caravan plots, mobile homes, charming wooden chalets and traditional Valencian houses. Leisure facilities include a lovely outdoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, children's playground and play room. Adults will enjoy the social club with games, bar and restaurant.
Private Holiday Accommodation
This is by far the most popular and readily available accommodation in Orihuela and Orihuela Costa. Visitors can either source their holiday home through an estate or letting agent or enquire privately. A good means for this is through social media and local Facebook buy & sell groups. Private holiday accommodation ranges from basic studio apartments to luxurious villas. Some of these holiday homes are situated within gated communities. These are excellent for a vacation as many feature shared leisure facilities such as gardens, parks, swimming pools and tennis courts.
Hostal & Hotel Accommodation
Firstly, hostal is not a spelling mistake. It is rather the Spanish word to describe a budget hotel with no star rating. Unlike hostels found in popular backpacking countries worldwide that have shared dorm rooms, hostals offer private guest rooms. They will either come with a private or shared bathroom. Some offer basic breakfast and others may just have a bar or vending machine.
Of the few hotels located in the city, Palacio de Tudemir Boutique Hotel boasts stunning decor and architecture. Land comes at a premium in the city so even this four star establishment has no swimming pool. This is maybe one of the reasons private holiday accommodation with shared leisure facilities is so popular in Orihuela. However, the city's hotels and hostals are well located for exploring the many historic churches, museums, monuments, squares and plazas.
Before dismissing luxurious resorts as out of your price range, you would do well to check out some of the rates. This is especially the case during low season when you can often find great deals. Resort hotels are found throughout the Costa Blanca, some forming part of a golf course. One such establishment is the superb Hotel La Finca Golf & Spa Resort. Located less than 20 kilometres from Orihuela, the resort's leisure and dining facilities are excellent. Additionally it has an 18 hole golf course, expertly designed by renowned landscape architect Pepe Gancedo. After a challenging round of golf, guests can relax in the spa or by a choice of swimming pools.
