Bars in Orihuela City offer a far different experience to those in Orihuela Costa. Although both these areas are within the municipality of Orihuela, they are like chalk and cheese. Orihuela City is predominantly populated by Spanish residents and holidaymakers. Due to this there is a large amount of traditional tapas bars. Here, although you will get to enjoy a great variety of superb tapas, you will hardly hear English being spoken. The popular coastal area of Orihuela Costa mainly caters to a large number of British and Irish expat residents and holidaymakers. Bars here all tend to feature British and Irish food and drink, and you will hardly hear any Spanish spoken.

Orihuela Music Bars

Pub Chipie Chic – Most of the popular bars with a more international clientele are situated in the new town, south of the river. Located on Calle Valencia, Pub Chipie Chic is one such bar. With its pavement seating, this is a great place to sit with a drink and people watch. Many locals and visitors meet here to enjoy a few drinks or cocktails before heading to a nightclub. Adding to the lively atmosphere is a great selection of music, regular DJ's and live entertainment.

Suco – This is a fun little music bar located a block from Pub Chipie on Calle Castellón. DJ's spin the latest tunes with Indie being popular, and reasonably priced drinks encourage patrons to stay for a while.

Sala La Gramola – It doesn't get more musical than this rocking joint. Located on Calle Valencia, the scene here resembles a concert hall rather than a bar. Regular live concerts keep the younger crowd coming back time and again. Rock bands feature highly, but for more of a laid back scene, Thursdays are fun karaoke night.

Orihuela Tapas Bars

El Tranvía – Locals in the know head to this place for some of the best tapas in the city. Located on Av. de España, a feature here are the tapa and drink deals. These comprise a small glass of beer, wine or soft drink accompanied by a selection of tapas for 2€ or 2.50€. They also do great burgers and salads and have an extensive wine menu.

La Cantina – Located on Av. de la Vega, the authentic tapas and rice dishes here are superb. One of the house specialities is a huge tortilla (Spanish omelette) stuffed full of traditional sausage, ham, chorizo, black pudding and herbs. Paellas are equally as good and the selection of tapas very inventive.

Bar Manolo – This is a local institute located right on the river on Calle Río. If you are taking a stroll along the river or visiting the Museo de la Muralla then defiantly stop in here for a bite. Their seafood tapas such as calamari and cuttlefish come highly recommended.  Also worth a try are the tempura black cod and stuffed peppers, especially when taken on the lovely terrace.

Bar Diego – Located on Calle Oriolet at the top of the old town, this is a great place to couple with a visit to Orihuela Castle. People visit from miles around for Diego's pies and empanadas. There is always a lively atmosphere here and many of the dishes have an inventive modern twist. Prices are very reasonable and they offer a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options.

Orihuela Costa Bars

Abbey Tavern – Orihuela Costa's bars are famous throughout the southern Costa Blanca. Nowhere else other than Benidorm will you find so many British and Irish bars in one area. Abbey Tavern is one such famous institute. Located on Calle Escorpio in the residential area of La Florida, the Abbey has been going for years. Set in beautiful tropical gardens with two outdoor bars and an entertainment stage, this is the venue for mesmerising flamenco shows. Indoors has a further bar, DJ booth and dance floor. Abbey is where the crowd heads for dancing until dawn.

The Emerald Isle – Another local institute, it is just up the road from the Abbey. A great variety of live entertainment is featured every evening and their Sunday roasts are legendary. A superb feature of the bar is its huge swimming pool. It also boasts a well maintained lawn bowls club.

Bushwacka – Mention the bars in Orihuela Costa and the odds are someone will have been to this crazy Australian themed bar. Although they do serve food, it's the wild nights of drink and debauchery this place is famous for. Raunchy foam parties, bands, solo artists and resident DJ's are just part of the regular weekend lineup. During the day cheap happy hours bring in the locals. Bushwacka is located on the famous Cabo Roig Strip that is packed with bars and restaurants.

Beach Bars – Other than the excellent bars, restaurants and entertainment venues, most visitors to Orihuela Costa are there for the beaches. These are predominantly made of fine golden sand with great facilities and quaint little beach bars. Don't let the quaint bit fool you; these places are extremely lively during the summer months. Located right on the sand, they serve a good choice of drinks, mind blowing cocktails and popular snacks.
