Water parks make for exciting family fun during a holiday in Orihuela. With fantastic year round sunshine, parks in general feature highly on the Costa Blanca. Urban parks provide welcome respite from the summer heat while exploring the city. Natural and National parks abound in interesting flora & fauna and attract walkers and ramblers with their numerous hiking trails. Animal parks and reserves are a firm favourite with children and adults alike, and marine reserves protect plant and fish species and offer superb snorkelling and scuba diving.
Surrounding Water Parks
Although there are no water parks within Orihuela City, there are several within a short drive. Aqua Park Rojales is the closest and is situated close to the town of Quesada, 35 minutes drive away. The park is set in 21,000 square metres of landscaped gardens with a selection of water slides, pools, a children's lake, picnic areas, cafe and restaurant. Park services include ample parking and ablutions, showers, sun loungers, parasols, first aid facilities and fully trained monitors and life guards. A variety of fun entertainment and games is provided for children.
Torrevieja Water Parks
There are two water parks in the coastal city of Torrevieja. These are slightly further afield but can still be reached by car in under 50 minutes. The smaller of the two is Aqua Park Flamingo. The park is located in the residential area of La Siesta on the outskirts of the city. Set in pretty gardens adorned with shady trees and palms, the rides and slides here are more suited to younger children, although there are one or two aimed at the older thrill seeker. A cafe bar is centrally located close to one of the swimming pools. Surrounding sun terraces provide free to use sun loungers, and parasols offer shade in the cafe's seating area. Parking here is also free.
On a larger scale and closer to the city centre is the superb Aquopolis Water Park. The location of the park is handy for visitors from Orihuela who wish to enjoy a whole day's outing. Within walking distance is Habaneras Shopping Complex, a multi-screen cinema complex, Ozone Leisure & Bowling Centre, Skyzone Trampolines and several popular takeaway restaurants. For the more sporting visitor, a visit to the nearby and amazing Torrevieja Sports City is a must.
Aquopolis Water Park
Aquopolis is one of the largest water parks on the Costa Blanca and there are rides and slides suitable for all ages. These are divided into three categories with various height restrictions. High Excitement offers adrenaline inducing rides such as Speed and Kamikaze. Moderate boasts the popular Amazonia River, Waves Beach, Black Hole, Speed Race and Blue Lagoon.
Lastly, Children's offers exciting areas for the younger kids, including a Mini Park, Charmed Lake and a Mini Zig-Zag Slide. Regular events and activities for all age groups are organised by the park's monitors and there are ample bars, cafes and restaurants offering a wide variety of food and drink. A chilled out VIP section invites visitors to beat the crowds and relax in style.
