Activities in Orihuela City are more suited to the discerning traveller looking to explore the region's ancient history, wonderful architecture and interesting museums and monuments. The city centre and old town are home to some lovely churches, many located in pleasant squares and plazas. Orihuela Castle beckons those fit enough to make the climb, and the cathedral with its shady corridors and courtyards is a pleasure to visit during the heat of the afternoon. However, the surrounding municipality of Orihuela boasts many more family holiday type activities.

Orihuela City Activities

The sunny Costa Blanca boasts the perfect climate for outdoor sports. Tennis is a fun activity all the family can enjoy and a great way to keep fit. On the outskirts of the city are two sports centres where locals and holidaymakers can enjoy several sports. Aside from tennis and the Spanish favourite padel, the sports centres have various other sports courts and one has an outdoor swimming pool. Swimming and tennis can also be enjoyed in some of the residential areas that have shared leisure facilities. Some also have social clubs, parks and children's playgrounds.

Water Activities

Aside from the relaxing pleasure of swimming, there are some thrilling water activities to be found in the coastal areas of Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja. The resort area of Orihuela Costa is home to several beautiful Blue Flag Award beaches. Here visitors can indulge their inner thrill seeker in and out the water. Jet ski's are an all time favourite. Parasailing gives an exciting birds eye view of the coastline and scuba diving draws you below the waves to explore the marine life.

Torrevieja's two marinas are a haven for all types of water activities. Visitors can experience the breathtaking speed and agility of the strikingly coloured Jet Boat. If you prefer you can soar through the air and dive under the waves on a crazy Flyboard. La Bocana Cable Ski encompasses a large area of one of the marinas. Here visitors can enjoy water-skiing , wake boarding or knee boarding in the safe environment of the centre. For a more relaxing experience, there are several yacht clubs in the marinas. These offer leisure and fishing charters as well as sailing lessons.

Orihuela Surrounding Activities

The River Segura may seem placid where it flows through the city, but further upstream it has the perfect conditions for white water rafting. River rides are operated by Rafting Murcia and run between the small towns of Cieza and Blanca. Participants can choose to walk the rougher rapids making it a superb activity all the family can enjoy. If kayaking and canoeing is more to your liking then you don't need to travel far from the city. A short drive will take you to Lake Pedrera. The lake is surrounded by a lovely nature reserve and is home to two multi-adventure centres. Both offer thrilling activities such as quad bikes, paintball, kayaks, zip-line and horse riding.

Further horse riding can be enjoyed at the charming El Rancho. Enjoy the cowboy experience where there are also other leisure activities, a swimming pool and rustic accommodation. Horses not fast enough for you, then try the adrenaline inducing activity of go-karting. There are two karting tracks within an easy drive from the city. Also within a short drive, visitors can take to the skies in a hot air balloon. The Costa Blanca is home to some of the best golf courses in Spain. La Finca Golf & Spa Resort is closest to the city, and several others are within 40 minutes drive.
