Alicante Airport

Alicante Airport is one of two that service Orihuela and its municipality. It is located on the outskirts of Alicante City and around 40 minutes drive from Orihuela. Due to it being situated within the municipality of Elche, it is also referred to as Alicante-Elche Airport. It is a busy, modern airport handling numerous daily national and international flights. Among the airlines that operate flights to Alicante Airport are several popular budget European airlines.

Alicante Airport Parking

The general car park (P1) is conveniently located just outside the terminal. This is mainly used by the public for picking up and dropping off. There are covered parking bays and security personnel on duty. The long term car park (PL) is a few minutes from the terminal and has the capacity for vehicles over 2.10 metres tall such as vans and camper vans. First class parking can be found on the 4th floor of the general parking area. Finally, there is an express car park opposite the terminal. This offers the exclusive convenience of collecting passengers.

Alicante Airport Public Transport

Car Hire – Alicante Airport is serviced by several national and international car hire companies. These include Hertz, Avis Budget, Sixt, Centauro, Goldcar Rental, Record Go and Europcar. They all have help desks within the terminal. Rental is possible upon arrival. However, during the peak summer months it is advisable to book in advance. This is also the case when looking for a specific vehicle type such as automatic transmission or larger capacity vehicles. Several independent car hire companies also deliver and collect vehicles from the terminal. If hiring a vehicle from an independent company, we always recommend Coys Rent-A-Car.

Taxis – Radio Taxi Elche is the official taxi company used by Alicante Airport. Taxis can be found outside both arrivals and departures. The company also has an information desk in the arrivals hall. Fares vary between week days and weekends and there is an airport supplement charge. Passengers are free to use any taxi company they choose, or even ‘moonlighters' but do so at their own risk. Using the official taxis allows the airport to monitor all journeys.

Buses – Local buses and coaches run from the airport to several surrounding cities. These include Alicante City, Torrevieja, Murcia, Santa Pola, Benidorm, Calpe and Cartagena. However, there isn't a direct bus to Orihuela. Travellers wishing to save on taxi fares to Orihuela can get a bus to either Alicante City or Murcia and take a bus from either of these to Orihuela.

Alicante Airport Services

Within the bright, modern terminal building are a number of passenger services. On the departure level are two information desks. A further mobile information point can be found in the arrivals area during busy times. There is wheelchair access throughout the terminal building. Ample clean and spacious ablutions include those with wheelchair access and baby changing rooms. Those wishing to change money will find a currency exchange and ATM's.

The airport has a lost luggage/property desk and baggage wrapping machine. Business travellers have access to meeting rooms. Travellers with young ones will find a children's play area, and there is also a first aid point. Seating areas and free WiFi is found throughout.

Alicante Airport Facilities

Throughout the public areas of Alicante Airport are several shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. This includes a handy tobacconist located just outside the terminal building. An even better selection of shops and eateries is offered to passengers once through customs control. These include duty free shops at both arrivals and departures. Alicante Airport is unlike some international airports that either have no smoking or a stuffy smoking room once past customs control. Here there is a pleasant, large outdoor smoking courtyard complete with a lively bar.

Passengers with a long wait for their flight or those that just wish a bit of luxury can enjoy the many services and complimentary catering of the Sala Ifach VIP Lounge. This is available to any passenger paying with a credit card at the access desk. It's also available for free to passengers holding a business class ticket from associated airlines. Within the passenger only zone, a number of beauty treatments and massages are offered in the Heaven On Earth SPA.

Public Transport

Public transport in Orihuela City is regular and efficient. However, the majority of foreign visitors tend to avoid any public transport other than taxis. This of course is due to the language barrier.
