Private Holiday Accommodation

Private holiday accommodation in Orihuela makes up the bulk of all accommodation options. This is due to the fact that the city has very few hotels. When visiting Orihuela, if for whatever reason a hotel is a must, there are further options in the surrounding villages and towns. The lack of hotels in the city is a pity as visitors can struggle to find a room in peak season. This is even more evident during the yearly Medieval Market and Moors & Christians Festival. However, during the festival which attracts over half a million spectators, the Orihuela town council lay on a bus service to and from the popular holiday resort area of Orihuela Costa.

Private Holiday Accommodation

Private holiday accommodation is when the owner of a property rents it out to people on vacation or business travellers. They differ from holiday apartments or aparthotels that are so popular in resorts like Benidorm as these are actually owned by large companies or hotel groups. Some private holiday accommodation is available all year round as the owner solely uses it as a means of income. Others will own a property here but only use it for themselves a couple of weeks a year for their own holiday and rent it out for the remaining months of the year.

Private holiday accommodation can be found through estate or letting agents. These agents will be responsible for a number of things in the property. They often need to be available to meet and greet holidaymakers and hand over keys. They sometimes also offer to inspect and clean a property before and after the occupants use. An important benefit of using the services of an agent is they will be available should any problems with the home arise. However, choosing to have the safety of finding a property through an agent comes at the cost of their commission.

By sourcing private holiday accommodation yourself will save on the agents commission but you should check all arrangements thoroughly. Find out if the owner lives nearby, or even in the same country. If not, make sure they have a reliable friend or family member to oversee all the arrangements. Check the entire property for any faults, damage or problems in the presence of the owner or their representative. Make sure they take note if there is any problems. If you fail to do this, the damage or problem may get blamed on you and they may not return your deposit. Local Facebook social and buy & sell groups are a good medium for finding private holiday lets.

City Centre Private Holiday Accommodation

Private holiday accommodation in the city is predominantly in apartments. You may find one or two townhouses or bungalows but these are mainly located in the surrounding residential areas.  Apartments in the city range from small studio's maybe with a tiny balcony to spacious top floor  penthouses with multiple bedrooms and huge wrap-around terraces. In the majority of cases they will come fully furnished and equipped. This usually includes appliances, cutlery, linen and bath towels. Some apartments may feature a garden or even a swimming pool or tennis court.

Residential Private Holiday Accommodation

A wider selection of properties can be found in Orihuela's residential areas. These properties include apartments, townhouses, bungalows and villas. They too are almost always furnished and equipped. Families with young children may wish to look for accommodation in a gated community. These offer a sense of safety, impose strict speed limits and often have nighttime or 24 hour security patrol officers. Another excellent feature of many gated communities is the shared leisure facilities they offer. Most have landscaped gardens and swimming pools. Others may have parks, playgrounds, tennis courts, social clubs and even little library's. Just make sure the owner has paid the community fees or you may be refused entry to these leisure facilities.
