Jumilla DO Wine Tours

Jumilla DO wine tours are an interesting and inexpensive way to discover the region's superb wines. Lying further inland from Orihuela City, both Jumilla and Yecla have DO in their titles. This is an abbreviation for the Spanish wine growing term Designation of Origin. In Spain the term also applies to other foodstuff such as meat and cheese. Jumilla DO wine tours can be enjoyed privately with family or friends or as part of a coach tour. However, when touring the various bodegas (wineries) in a private vehicle, it's wise to have a ‘sober' allocated driver.

Jumilla DO Wine Tours

The town of Jumilla is around an hour's drive from Orihuela City via the A-33. It's a pleasant and picturesque drive, passing through the foothills of the Sierra de El Carche Natural Park. If you decide to make a whole day of your trip, the park is home to some lovely hiking trails. Overlooking the town is the impressive Jumilla Castle. This is great to explore and boasts some wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Within the town you will come across several bars where you can sample the region's wines straight from the barrel.

Jumilla DO Wine Tours & Tasting

Surrounding the town are a number of bodegas. Not all of these offer wine tours but the ones that do are excellent. Bodegas Luzón is located a couple of kilometres out of town along the RM-714. They offer an informative guided tour of the facilities. Included in the tour is a wine tasting session accompanied by a variety of tapas that compliment the different wines. Price is a very reasonable 6€ per person. Closer to the town centre are two further bodegas on either side of Av. de Murcia. These are Bodegas Fernandez SA and BSI Bodegas San Isidro. A highlight of BSI Bodegas San Isidro is its well stocked on-site shop that also does a range of olive oils.

Quad Bike Tours

Quad bike tours offer fun and fresh air and are a great way to explore Orihuela's surrounding countryside. Orihuela City and its coastal area of Orihuela Costa boast some fantastic activities and attractions.
