The animal parks on the Costa Blanca are some of the best in the country. They can take up vast areas of countryside with indigenous plants and trees from various continents. Some boast themed areas carefully designed to re-create the animals natural habitat. Others feature additional family fun such as aqua parks, adventure playgrounds and kids activities. Visiting one of the Costa Blanca's animal parks during a holiday in Orihuela can offer hours of fun and entertainment, not to mention the interesting educational programs they provide for children.
Costa Blanca Animal Parks
Being the most popular holiday destination on the Costa Blanca, Benidorm boasts several superb animal parks. However, the city is a bit of a long drive from Orihuela just for a fun outing. Thankfully visitors don't have to travel that far to enjoy a thrilling day at a choice of closer animal parks. Almost equidistant from Orihuela are two excellent animal parks. These are Rio Safari Elche and Terra Natura in Murcia. Both are around 30 minutes drive. Should you wish to enjoy a few drinks and don't fancy driving, both cities can be reached by tram.
Rio Safari Elche
Famed for having the largest palm groves in Europe, Elche is a fantastic city to visit. Just as popular is the amazing Rio Safari Elche. Set in a large area of parkland and forest, Rio Safari is home to some magnificent animals from around the world. Their various themed zones offer visitors the chance to explore on foot or take the Safari Train. Some of the animals to be seen include great apes, smaller primates, fierce carnivorous, birds, reptiles and animals from the vast African savanna. Throughout the day there are a variety of wonderful shows and education and conservation programs. School groups and children's parties are welcome.
The fun at Rio Safari Elche doesn't end with the animals. Fun family activities can be enjoyed in the swimming pool area. This is a kids favourite with a large water slide, paddling pool and the recent addition of a Splash Zone for the younger children. Sun terraces are equipped with loungers and parasols. A go-kart track offers a variety of ride on karts for all ages. There is also a trampoline zone and mini adventure playground located next to the restaurant. For those that prefer to bring along a packed lunch, a pleasant shaded picnic area is available.
Terra Natura Murcia
Terra Natura boast a variety of animal parks as well as water and theme parks on the Costa Blanca. The one in Murcia offers both an animal and water park. For the young equestrian in the family there is also the recent addition of a fun Pony Club. The animal park is set in a large area of countryside and has three zones. These offer different experiences and include an Animals Zoo, Shows Zoo and Activities Zoo. Each zone has been designed to showcase the animals in as natural an environment as possible. In addition to the zones, visitors to the park after the sun goes down can experience the thrill of a Night Safari, a favourite with the kids.
Be sure to bring along swimwear for a visit to Terra Natura's aqua park. This is an exciting area of the park and very refreshing during the scorching summer months. There are slides and rides for all ages including daredevil ones such as Kamikaze and Speed Hole. For a cool dip, the park has several swimming pools including the kids favourite Prison Island. Hungry visitors will find a selection of cafes, bars and restaurants in both areas of the park. On the various sun terraces loungers can be hired and experienced lifeguards are on duty at all times.
