Public Transport

Public transport in Orihuela City is regular and efficient. However, the majority of foreign visitors tend to avoid any public transport other than taxis. This of course is due to the language barrier. The city boasts a regular local bus service as well as national coaches to various other Spanish cities. It is also one of the few cities on the Costa Blanca to have a train service. Most holidaymakers arriving and departing will choose one of two airports. These are Alicante Airport and Murcia-San Javier Airport. Here you will find buses, taxis and and various car hire firms.

Orihuela Public Transport

Visitors that plan on doing a lot of sightseeing during their stay in Orihuela will usually pre-book car hire to collect when arriving at the airport. Others just wishing to wander around the sights of the city will find it's quite easily explored on foot. The River Segura that divides the city centre from the old town provides many shady places to rest for a while. There are also pleasant parks and plazas where you can stop for refreshments or a picnic during a walk around the city. Those without private transport wishing to explore further afield will need to brave the buses or trains.

Orihuela Taxis

Visiting Orihuela's attractions by taxi can work out rather costly. For some though, especially the elderly, disabled or those with young children, the expense is worth it. Knowing you are getting directly to and from your destination in air conditioned comfort does make for a more stress free holiday. Radio Taxi Orihuela have an office and taxi rank on Calle Cristo de Zalamea. This is just north of the river and runs parallel to the CV-921. Alternately, there are further taxi ranks at the main bus and train stations. Should you wish to contact Radio Taxi Orihuela, call 966740202.

Orihuela Buses

Local buses are by far the cheapest public transport in the city. Should you wish to use the bus service, do a bit of planning firsthand and maybe even learn a few useful Spanish words. Find your destination on google maps and look for any popular buildings or landmarks nearby. This will at least enable you to give the driver an idea of where you're heading and they can inform you when they get to the closest stop. There are bus stops throughout the city and the main bus station is located on the aptly named Av. Estación. This services all the local routes as well as coaches to other Spanish cities, and international coaches to France.

Orihuela Trains

Orihuela train station is conveniently right next door to the bus station. Commuters can choose to take the faster trains that only stop at major cities on the Costa Blanca such as Elche, Alicante and Murcia. There are also slower trains that stop at towns in between these cities. At the station it is possible to book tickets to further national and international destinations.

Murcia-San Javier Airport

Murcia-San Javier Airport is the smaller of the two airports that service Orihuela City and its municipality. It is located south of Orihuela and can be reached by car in around 50 minutes via the AP-7 or RM-1.
